Moldovan Network

In 2003 an exceptional situation had been located in the Vorniceni village, Republic of Moldova, because at the Ion Inculet school there were 75 cases of Hepatitis A. This situation encouraged the first step of solving the problem to commence: creating The Moldovan Network of Rural Volunteering Centers for Water (MNRVCW). The MNRVCW will make an important contribution to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals, to all of which water plays a crucial role. The MNRVCW aims at expanding its activities including other villages, countries on local, regional, national, European and International level. Therefore, NGO TERRA-1530 is asking you to spread the word that we are looking for partners in our efforts to expand our activities, including volunteer exchange.

Who are the e-volunteers?

A multi stakeholder process led to the implementation of 4 demonstration projects in 4 locations along the Bucovati tributary: Dolna, Micleuseni, Lozova and Vorniceni, in close co-operation with the local population, local authorities and youth. 16,000 seeds have been planted along 32 km of the Bucovati stream by over 100 volunteers. The strategy for sustainable development of the Bucovat Stream for 2010-2020 has been approved by the local authorities.

How many e-volunteers are involved?

63 e-volunteers.

Whom do they address the project to? Who is the recipient?

Drinking water crisis is a present day problem especially for the Republic of Moldova, mostly for the rural locations, which constitute more than a half of country’s population. Only 17 of them have aqueducts, 67% of which are in a miserable condition and don’t reach the hygiene standard. The population of the rest of the rural areas makes its water supply from wells and springs, the majority of which are polluted with pathological bacteria. The rural inhabitants’ access to qualitative drinking water can’t be presently satisfied because of the low income level (20-25 USD for person per month) and also because of a lack of money in local and state budget. Important financial sources are needed and they can only be offered by international financial organisations and by donor country governments.

How do they verify the e-volunteers’ competences before they start the co-operation with them?

E-volunteers are appointed after taking part in a competition.

How do they ensure the safety and the quality of the e-volunteers’ work?

Experts monitor e-volunteers’ work, thus assuring they produce good quality work and are their safety while showing results.
